Locality

St Helens is the largest town on the north-east coast of Tasmania and overlooks Georges Bay. St Helens is the game fishing capital of Tasmania, with anglers enjoying a variety of fish including tuna and marlin. The St Helens Game Fishing Classic, held in March, attracts a growing number of visitors each year. It is also well-known for the quality of its crayfish, oysters and abalone.

Just north of St Helens is the stunning Bay of Fires which has been voted 'hottest' destination by Lonely Planet: 'White beaches of hourglass-fine sand, Bombay Sapphire sea, an azure sky'. Bordering the Bay of Fires is the Mount William National Park, home to the protected Forester Kangaroo.

Just south of St Helens is Scamander, another seaside fishing village famed for bream fishing in the Scamander River. The Scamander Beach stretches for miles. Between St Helens and Scamander are numerous beaches and walks to discover. Inland of St Helens is the township of Derby, a quaint and historic tin mining town nestled amongst mountains and rainforest.

There is a delightful, newly constructed, coastal walk from Stieglitz to St Helens township, which is well worth the walk.
